Spectral Platforms has developed point of care tools for the rapid diagnosis of pathogens. Our first tool InSpector-01 can determine if a febrile patient has any bacterial/fungal infections within 1 hour of blood draw. Since >90% of all patients who are suspected of having a bloodstream infection (and who are treated with antimicrobials) are eventually diagnosed as uninfected, the information provided by our tool will enable a significant reduction in antimicrobial use. Our second tool, InSpector-01 can quickly (within 3 hours of blood draw) predict the susceptibility of the causative pathogen to a small number of candidate antimicrobials. Information provided by this tool will help reduce the use of broad spectrum antimicrobials, and will instead promote the use of narrowly tailored therapy.
