Our team has been working in the field of environmental microbiology for over twelve years, with a strong focus on characterizing phenotypic traits of microbes to understand their ecology by combining dynamic imaging and microfluidic technology. Our research has been published in leading journals including Science, Nature Reviews Microbiology, Nature Physics and PNAS. Now, we aim to apply our expertise to develop a disruptive point-of-care diagnostic method for fast and accurate (i) identification and (ii) antibiotic susceptibility testing of clinically relevant pathogens.

PhAST aims to accelerate infectious disease diagnostics and help solve the global challenge of antibiotic resistance. A major bottleneck of current clinical diagnostic approaches is the slow time-to-result, which goes from hours to days. We aim to provide the same diagnostic results within 30 minutes based on proprietary single-cell imaging technology.
