Broad Spectrum has co-developed a rapid wet chemistry bacterial quantification and identification technique, and coupled that to new technologies to provide a portable, connected, and instantaneous results platform. The platform is capable of analysing bacterial load in samples such as blood, urine, sputum and CSF. This allows users to instantly identify the presence, magnitude and possibly type of a bacterial infection, and thereby inform the decision to administer antibiotics, confirm the efficacy of antibiotic treatment, and know when to terminate a course of antibiotics. The consortium consists of members from private industry, the healthcare sector, and academic institutions, combining specialisations including clinical research, computer science, mathematics, biotechnology and product manufacturing. A portable handheld spectral device to instantly quantify the bacterial load in venous blood and/or urine.
