AMR @ University of Bradford

About this entry

Our team at the University of Bradford comprises expertise in Polymer and Biomaterials, Microbiology, and Commercialisation of Medical/IVD Devices. The team has a strong presence in antimicrobial resistance (AMR), jointly leading an MRC and Newton Funded UK-India Centre for Advanced Technology for Minimising the Indiscriminate use of Antibiotics (UKICAT-MA), and Wellcome Trust Affordable Healthcare Project in India to discriminate eye infections.

Our work is primarily based around smart materials responsive to specific pathogens by changing state upon binding. These conformational changes are then either monitored to provide colourimetric readout of the presence of the pathogen or provide a basis for targeting antibiotics. We believe the technology has the potential for simple and rapid (< 30 min) measurement whilst maintaining high diagnostic sensitivity and specificity.
