Next week sees the return of Biology Week, with a whole host of activities planned around the country, from lectures and talks through to hands-on fun and even comedy. The week aims to celebrate all that’s great about biosciences and it’s great to see that the list of events includes several that are focused on antimicrobial resistance. We’ll be heading to several of these events to spread the word about the Prize and antibiotic resistance. Biology Week is organised by the Royal Society of Biology. Biology Week runs from Saturday 8th to Sunday 16th October.
Science and Stormont 2016, Belfast. We’ll be hearing all the latest developments on the fight against antibiotic resistance in Northern Ireland, a region that has recently seen two new teams register for the Prize.
Royal Society of Biology’s Policy Lates, London. The focus of this month’s Policy Lates is, “Tackling antimicrobial resistance crisis – what roles will regulation and innovation play?” Our own Tamar Ghosh, Prize Lead, will be taking part in the panel discussion, which includes research and policy experts. The event is free to attend and open to the public. Register now!
Big Biology Day, Cambridge. We’re taking our mobile game Superbugs on the road to this activity-packed day with a range of hands-on biology activities for all ages. The Microbiology Society will also be joining the fight against antibiotic resistance by encouraging you to get involved in finding the next new antibiotic as part of Antibiotics Unearthed. Just by sending in a soil sample to the team of scientists working on the project, you could help solve the problem of antibiotic resistance.
